The Pengelly Centre

The charge for use of the Centre is £8.80 per person per night.
There is currently a minimum charge of £105.60 per group per night.
The minimum charge replaces the charge per person for group sizes less than 12.
It is also possible to hire bedding at a cost of £10 per person per set (duvet/pillow with covers).

The Pengelly Centre provides, comfortable but basic, self catering, accommodation which is reasonably priced. Users should be aware that they will need to bring their own washing kit and towels. The kitchen is equipped with basic utensils and cooking equipment, but groups should bring any specialist cooking equipment that they may require along with their own tea towels. Although we try to keep the centre as clean and tidy as possible, it is largely used by groups involved in caving and other outdoor activities.

The Trust's cave studies centre is located in Buckfastleigh, Devon, Southwest England. Close to Dartmoor and the South Devon coast, the Centre is situated on a large outcrop of Devonian Limestone called Buckfastleigh Hill in the River Dart valley. It is part of a larger property designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. There is accommodation for 23 residents, and a wide range of educational and research facilities. The Centre is used by primary and secondary school groups, and by students from further and higher education.

Occasional public courses and tours are arranged, and the Centre is open to visitors at various times of the year.

Visiting the Centre

You can visit the Centre by arrangement (please contact the Booking Secretary), or take part in one of the guided walks which are advertised locally during the summer months. Educational groups from schools, colleges and universities use the Centre at all times of the year, and there are good facilities for small residential and day courses. The Museum houses a range of exhibits dealing with most aspects of cave studies.
