LIMESTONE SOLUTION CAVES

The Limestone Caves as we know them in south Devon have all developed as a result of chemical, geological and topographical agencies acting along cracks such as faults, joints and bedding planes in limestone rock.

LAVA CAVES

Lava Caves can be found in many volcanic regions througout the world. They were formed by the bridging of lava channels by a solidifying crust. During the final stages of cooling the last remnants of liquid lava solidified inside the tube to produce stalagtites and stalagmites.

SEA CAVES

Sea Caves are found along the length of our coastline and were formed principally by the action of the sea on the cliffs. The continual action of the waves pounding the cliffs have in many places given rise to caves of various shapes and sizes. They are not necessaeily formed in limestone.
